Home Economics

I finally decided on my major. I start classes at Palomar 1/19/10 and my Associate's will be in Family and Consumer Sciences. I will then transfer to SDSU to finish my Bachelor's in Home Economics. The career ideas I have range from working in a restaurant, hotel, resort, etc. doing menu planning and testing; working in a bakery doing wedding cake design; getting a gig developing recipes for cookbooks, online sites, cooking shows, etc.; recipe testing in a lab like General Mills or any other food company. Who knows? Maybe one day I can have my own print or online food column and the ultimate would be to get a cooking show! (In my dreams, but hey, you never know!)

MommyTime Tip: Roast turkeys (chickens too!) breast side down so the white meat never gets dry. Start roasting for 30 minutes at 450 degrees (to lock in all the juices and crisp the skin), then drop the temp down to 325 degrees.

This week

What a week it's been. Typical in the life of a mother, I know.. but sometimes I wonder what the heck is going on?! Full moon = yes. Maybe that explains it. Sunday night was not good. I thought for sure I was going to be up with the flu in full force. Nope- woke up Monday morning and was just exhausted - not ill. (At least I don't think I was.) Took a sick day on Monday - thankfully, I had one left. I got sick so many times in the last couple years, I've maxed out all my sick days. The year when I actually have some unused days will be a miracle.

Tuesday was busy with catch-up at work. Last Friday there was a minor catastrophe - our phone systems went down. Stayed at the office til about a quarter til 6 (supposed to leave at 4:30), and still didn't get the problem fixed. I worked on it most of the day Tuesday and today and hopefully I can finish it up tomorrow. I was faced with all kinds of techie language I don't speak like proxies, global IPs, and a bunch of other nonsense that I didn't understand. Miraculously, I was 'resourceful' enough (inside joke in my own mind) to get my end of a new phone system to work. All the crazies came out today at the office. Crazy customers, that is. I got stuck talking to about 3 or 4 of them. It was a real joy - not.

Tonight looks like another night of cuddles with the kids and another viewing of Ice Age - the movie. I was able to sneak down here on the floor to write a quick blog, but I'm sure I won't survive down here alone for very long.

For anyone that comes across this blog, remember it and come back soon. I have lots of good recipes and ideas to share on here. Maybe I will start a MommyTime Tip.. here is the first one:

MommyTime Tip: Need to get some house cleaning done but want to include the kids? Let them take turns vacuuming. Make sure there aren't objects on the floor (or cords along the wall) that will get sucked up and fry the vaccum belt. My kids LOVE to vacuum. Watching little specs on the floor get sucked up are quite entertaining to them! My 4 year old can vacuum a room nice enough now that I don't have to go over it at all!

The beginning of a blog

I figured, hey - why not? For those of you that happen to like mindless entertainment, this blog will be for you. Interested in knowing what happens in the life of a working mother and wife? Assuming that you are not one of the aforementioned, you may think this will be an exciting read - it's usually not. However, I do have a toddler and a preschooler who, to me, are extremely hilarious.

I do have good recipes and other helpful tips for moms and wives so who knows? Maybe my little blog will get me a spot on Dr. Oz like that recent mom who drank too much wine each night...funny thing is that show focused on moms who wait for their kids to go to bed at night to have a glass...or two... of wine. Why is that funny you ask? Well, for those of you who know me, you know that I am not a big drinker.. Well, turns out I had a glass of wine in my hand that night! Maybe it was a sign...

Now my husband just sat down next to me. I am sure he isn't to this sentence yet. I'd pin him on the first, maybe second paragraph... I wonder what he will have to say about my first blog. He should be to this sentence any minute.. let's wait and see.... And so I hear, "Why are you writing that?" I say "What?" He says that last paragraph." Hey.. at least I got a laugh out of him when I quoted his predicatable question...

That's all for now.. not really much to bring you back begging for more stories or terrible humor. I can be funny sometimes, just ask the people around me!

Ta-ta for now!
